Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 6, 2025
At Zonvert, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our website or browser extension.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using Zonvert, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
Data You Provide
We collect information that you provide directly when using Zonvert, including:
- Conversion history (stored locally on your device)
- Saved favorites and preferences
- Theme preferences
Automatically Collected Data
When you use Zonvert, our servers automatically record certain information, including:
- IP address (anonymized)
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Date and time of your visit
- Pages visited and features used
- Anonymous usage statistics
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Zonvert
- Understand how users interact with our service
- Detect and address technical issues
- Monitor the usage and analytics of our service
- Protect against unauthorized access or abuse
Zonvert primarily uses local storage on your device to store conversion history and preferences. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly choose to export it.
The browser extension stores settings and recent conversions in your browser's local storage.
This section details the data handling practices specific to the Zonvert Unit Converter browser extension.
Local Storage Usage
The extension utilizes your browser's local storage (`chrome.storage.local`) to save your settings and preferences directly on your computer. This includes:
- Selected theme (light/dark/system).
- Default conversion category for the popup.
- Chosen number precision for results.
- Saved favorite unit pairs.
- Recent conversion history (last 15 conversions).
- Settings for the optional inline conversion widget (enabled/disabled, position).
This information is stored solely on your local device and is never transmitted to Zonvert or any third party. It is used only to personalize your experience and provide features like history recall. You can clear your conversion history and favorites at any time via the extension's options page.
Permissions Justification
- `storage`: Required to save your settings, history, and favorites locally as described above.
- `contextMenus`: Used only to add the "Convert with Zonvert" option to your right-click menu for activating the inline widget on selected text.
- `scripting`: Required to inject the code needed to display the inline conversion widget when activated by the user via the context menu or keyboard shortcut.
- `activeTab`: This permission grants temporary access to the currently active web page *only when you explicitly invoke the extension* (e.g., by clicking the context menu item or using the keyboard shortcut for the inline widget). It allows the extension to inject its code (`scripting` permission) and read the text you have selected on that specific tab for that specific action. It does not grant persistent access to read or modify data on all websites or track your browsing history.
Data Collection and Transmission
The Zonvert browser extension does not collect, track, or transmit any personal data, browsing activity, or usage statistics to external servers. All core functionality operates locally within your browser.
We use third-party services for analytics and performance monitoring. These services may collect anonymous usage data to help us improve our application. They include:
- Analytics providers to understand user behavior
- Performance monitoring services to identify and fix technical issues
These services are GDPR-compliant and anonymize user data.
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data.
Zonvert is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "last updated" date.
You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
